The Montana trip was supposed to be simple.
Private. Predictable.
Then one invitation changed everything.
1. An Unexpected Invite
Jaden paced his living room, phone pressed to his ear, already committed to the decision.
Jaden: “Sharra, I want you in Montana for the baby’s birth. It wouldn’t feel right without you.”
There was a pause on the line.
Sharra: “You really want me there?”
Jaden: “I do.”
In that moment, Montana stopped being just a trip—and became something much bigger.

2. News Larry Didn’t Expect
Later that day, Sharra called Larry, excitement steady in her voice.
Sharra: “Jaden invited me to Montana. I’m coming with you.”
Larry hesitated, then smiled.
Larry: “I didn’t see that coming… but I’m glad you’re coming.”
What he didn’t realize yet was how much that decision would ripple outward.
3. Bethany Walks In
Bethany was still imagining Montana as their escape—until the front door opened.
Sharra stood there with a suitcase.
Bethany: “Sharra… what are you doing here?”
Sharra: “I’m going to Montana with Larry. Jaden invited me.”
The room shifted. Quiet. Heavy. Nothing Bethany had planned survived that sentence.
4. Drawing the Line
Bethany turned to Larry, voice tight.
Bethany: “Then I’m not going.”
Larry frowned, choosing his words carefully.
Larry: “Bethany, this isn’t just about us. This is important.”
Bethany: “I don’t care. This isn’t what I signed up for.”
For the first time, Montana felt less like a place—and more like a dividing line.
5. Calm in the Middle
Sharra stepped in gently, refusing to escalate.
Sharra: “I’m not here to replace anyone. This is about the baby. About being there.”
Bethany’s eyes softened—but only slightly.
Bethany: “We were supposed to go together.”
Larry nodded, conflicted.
Larry: “I know. But I can’t undo the invitation.”
And just like that, expectations collapsed.
6. Stepping Back
Bethany took a long breath, heart racing.
Bethany: “I need space. I can’t go to Montana like this.”
Larry didn’t argue.
Larry: “I respect that. I just hope you understand… this isn’t about leaving you behind.”
Bethany watched as Larry and Sharra turned toward the trip ahead—packing, planning, moving forward.
Softly, almost to herself, she whispered:
Bethany: “Montana isn’t mine anymore.”
The room stayed quiet. The decision stayed made.
And no one knew what this trip would change once it truly began.
