Bethany vs Jordan: Montana Madness

INT. MONTANA CABIN – BEDROOM – DAY

The room is cozy but tense. Sunlight streams through dusty windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air.

BETHANY (30s, stressed) paces back and forth, phone gripped tightly in her hand.

JORDAN (30s, charming but defensive) leans against the pine wall, arms crossed, smirking.

BETHANY I can’t believe you actually brought them here!

JORDAN Relax, it’s just Montana. Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.

Bethany stops pacing. She puts her hands on her hips, glaring.

BETHANY This isn’t about “relaxing”! You know exactly why I came.

JORDAN Oh really? Enlighten me.

BETHANY You’re making this about you again, like always.

A tense silence fills the room. The wind HOWLS outside, rattling the windowpane.

JORDAN Beth, I’m not trying to fight. Just… maybe calm down before you explode.

BETHANY I’m calm! I’m…

I’m done being the adult here when you act like a child.

Jordan’s smirk falters. There is a flicker of guilt in his eyes.

JORDAN Look, I didn’t mean to upset anyone. I just wanted to enjoy Montana—

BETHANY Enjoy? While everyone else cleans up your mess?

Bethany’s voice softens. The anger cracks, revealing exhaustion underneath.

BETHANY I wanted this trip to be fun… not another drama episode.

Jordan finally drops the smirk entirely. He steps closer.

JORDAN Okay… maybe I overdid it. I’ll fix this.

BETHANY (Skeptical) How?

JORDAN I’ll handle it. Right now.

Bethany exhales slowly, the tension in her shoulders easing just an inch.

BETHANY Just… don’t make me regret coming all the way out here.

JORDAN Consider them gone.

Jordan turns and walks out the door.

INT. MONTANA CABIN – LIVING ROOM – MOMENTS LATER

The vibe downstairs is chaotic. MIKE, SARAH, and DAVE are sprawled on the leather couches. Empty beer cans clutter the rustic coffee table. Music THUMPS from a portable speaker.

Jordan descends the stairs. His face is set in grim determination.

MIKE (Raising a beer) Jordy! Finally done with the warden? Come grab a cold one.

Jordan walks over to the speaker and cuts the music. The silence is sudden and awkward.

JORDAN Pack up.

SARAH What? We just got here.

JORDAN I know. And it’s my fault. But you guys can’t stay here.

DAVE (Laughing nervously) Dude, stop joking. It’s freezing outside.

JORDAN I’m serious. I’ve already called an Uber XL. It’ll be here in twenty minutes to take you to the Whitefish Lodge. I’ll pay for the rooms. I’ll pay for dinner. But you have to go.

The friends exchange looks. Mike stands up, his smile fading.

MIKE You’re kicking us out? For her?

Jordan steps closer to Mike. He doesn’t look angry, just tired.

JORDAN No. I’m kicking you out for me. Because I need to not screw up my marriage today.

A beat of silence. Mike scoffs, shakes his head, then grabs his duffel bag.

MIKE Whatever, man. Buzzkill.

SCENE 3

INT. MONTANA CABIN – BEDROOM – LATER

The sun has dipped lower, casting long, golden shadows across the floor. Bethany sits on the edge of the bed, staring at her hands.

The sound of a heavy front door SLAMMING echoes from downstairs. Then, the crunch of tires on gravel fading away.

Silence returns to the cabin. Real silence.

Footsteps creak up the stairs. Bethany straightens her posture. Jordan appears in the doorway holding two mugs of steaming coffee.

JORDAN They’re gone.

BETHANY Did they hate you?

JORDAN (Walking over) Probably. Mike called me a whipped puppy.

He hands her a mug. She takes it, the warmth seeping into her hands.

JORDAN I told him he was right.

Bethany cracks a small, genuine smile.

BETHANY Thank you.

JORDAN Don’t thank me for cleaning up a mess I made.

He sits beside her on the bed. They sip their coffee in silence, but the air between them feels lighter.

BETHANY So. Just us.

JORDAN Just us. And a very expensive bill for three rooms at the Lodge.

Bethany laughs, a soft sound that surprises them both. She leans her head on his shoulder.

BETHANY Worth it.

FADE OUT.
